Dubai Metro & Transportation Guide.

Metro, taxi, tram, bus, airport transfer or rental car? Dubai gives visitors several ways to move around. The best choice depends on where you are staying, your itinerary, luggage and how much flexibility you need.

Getting Around Dubai

Choose transport around your itinerary.

Dubai's public transport network includes Metro, tram, buses and marine transport, while taxis, ride-hailing, private transfers and rental cars add flexibility. For many visitors, combining more than one mode is more practical than relying on a single option for the entire trip.

Dubai Metro

The Dubai Metro has Red and Green lines with connections to buses, taxis and other transport. It is especially useful when your origin and destination are close to stations. Union and BurJuman are interchange stations between the two lines.

Operating hours can change for holidays and special events, so check current RTA timings on the day you travel rather than building a trip around an old timetable.

nol Card

RTA's nol card is the smart payment card used across Dubai Metro, buses, Dubai Tram and several marine transport services. Travelers tap when entering and exiting applicable services.

Card types, minimum balance requirements and fares can change, so verify the current RTA rules before travel.

Taxis & Ride-Hailing

Taxis can be convenient for destinations that are not close to Metro stations, for groups, or when carrying luggage. At DXB, Dubai Taxi Company taxis operate from designated terminal ranks around the clock. Ride-hailing services are also available at the airport.

Dubai Tram & Buses

The tram serves parts of new Dubai, while the bus network extends public-transport coverage beyond Metro corridors. Journey times and schedules vary, so check current RTA journey-planning information when building a route.

Private Airport Transfers

A pre-arranged transfer can be useful after a long flight, for families or groups, when traveling with substantial luggage, or when you prefer to arrange the airport-to-accommodation journey before arrival.

Rental Cars

A rental car can provide more flexibility for travelers planning destinations that are less convenient by public transport or for trips beyond the central sightseeing areas. Consider parking, traffic, navigation, rental conditions and your planned routes before deciding.

Arriving at DXB

Metro access from Dubai International Airport.

Dubai Airports currently lists Red Line Metro connections at DXB Terminals 1 and 3. Travelers arriving through Terminal 2 should not assume the same direct Metro access. If you have luggage, arrive outside operating hours, or your accommodation is inconvenient from a station, compare a taxi or pre-arranged transfer instead.

Plan Smarter

Match the transport to the day.

Sightseeing Days

Group attractions by area and combine Metro with shorter taxi or walking connections where practical instead of crossing the city repeatedly.

Desert Experience Day

Check the tour's pickup arrangements before arranging separate transportation. Some experience listings may include pickup while others may use different meeting arrangements.
